Summer Solstice
Honoring the Light Within
The Summer solstice represents the transition from action to nourishment, which is exactly what the Sun gives us during the long nights of summer, both to our actual crops but also to the continual journey we travel from darkness to light. Summer reminds us that there is hope in the world, that the light within can spread to the far reaches of the globe and inspire others. We can nurture others, just as the Sun nurtures us.
Our neighbors plant their seedlings into their garden boxes, mow their, almost fluorescent green, lawns, and return their outdoor furniture to the outdoors. The days are long and evening conversations with these same neighbors become more abundant. We catch up on a Winter’s long absence with one another to hear stories about each other’s family members (near and far) and anticipate upcoming travels that will take us, often, to those near and far places.
Summer Solstice helps remind us of the light within each of us. We utilize this light to connect to our Community - the transition from action to nourishment. As we plant the seeds of travel, adventures, gatherings, outdoor concerts, and of course literal plant seedlings; we also get the opportunity to nourish our community by taking this action.
A family reunion, a wedding, a graduation…
Opportunities of action that lead toward nourishment of our soul. Long days ending near a backyard fire pit surrounded by good company and delicious food; opportunities to share discussions of music and the dreams that created them.
Summer reminds us that there is hope in the world; that the light within can spred to the far reaches of the globe and inspire others.
